Why Stay At The Homestead Resort
This historic, 483-room resort deep within the Allegheny Mountains is Virginia's true grande dame, offering southern comforts (plush beds, elegant dining spaces) along with rough-and-tumble activities, from hiking to horseback riding.
As monumental as a state capitol building (complete with red-brick wings and a green-domed cupola), the 255-year-old Homestead is the uncontested grande dame of the Allegheny Mountains, set 180 miles south of Richmond. Here, old Virginia hospitality suffuses every aspect of guests' stays, from the gracious service and haute-traditional cuisine to the ritual of afternoon tea and biscuits in the pillared Grand Hall. The 483 rooms and suites also exemplify antebellum elegance, with warm-pastel wallpapers of mauve and rose, roomy upholstered armchairs, thick floral drapes, and sumptuous down featherbeds that would give even the daintiest of southern belles sweet dreams. Plus, some suites have sun porches with rocking chairs—all the better for admiring the property's misty mountain surroundings.
Maître d' Woody Pettus has hosted guests at the Homestead's dining room for 50 years; ask for his recommendations, and you'll have all the insider help you need.
Don't skip the complimentary History Tour on the Homestead grounds. Staffers review 245 years of Homestead history—including the property's architecture, local lore, antiques, and more.
Arrive at Roanoke Regional Airport (ROA), which is approximately 75 miles (1 hour 45 minutes) from the resort.1766 Homestead Drive, Hot Springs, Virginia, United States

Why We Love Hot Springs
Take a magical step back in time. This quaint village is home to the post office, market, and apothecary that have been fixtures on the street for over a century. Stroll, shop, and enjoy a variety of dining options along a picturesque Main Street.
Top Day Trip: Cascade Gorge. Thanks to its location set within the verdant peaks of the George Washington National Forest, the Homestead is surrounded by excellent hiking trails, including routes that lead to the Cascade Gorge. On the property grounds, the North and South trails are easy strolls, while the more strenuous Deerlick Trail offers views of the surrounding misty mountains.
Wellness Escape: Jefferson Pools. Temperatures reach 98 degrees year-round in the nearby mineral hot springs, called Jefferson Pools. Don't be put off by the rickety octagonal building or the clothing-optional rule (men's and women's pools are separate); as Thomas Jefferson vouched in 1818, the crystal-clear hot springs are more blissfully relaxing than any local spa. Day passes for two from $34. 540/839-5346.
Outdoor Excursions: Homestead Grounds. The Homestead's 150 acres are an active traveler's dream, with everything from Virginia's best golf course to the wild Allegheny terrain. The hotel will take you fly-fishing, skeet shooting, horseback riding, canoeing and kayaking, and much, much more. Read More
