Why Stay At Petra Hotel & Suites
A swimming pool overlooking Grikos Bay—plus unrivaled service—make this Patmos hotel an easy and relaxing Greek island getaway.
It's hard to feel anything but calm and joyful when you're lounging by the mosaic-tiled pool and gazing down at serene Grikos Bay. Adding to the experience are owners Petroula and Kostas, who are known to offer helpful advice on what to do and where to swim. Inside, each of the 12 rooms and suites is filled with the work of modern Greek artists, flat-screen TVs, and plush beds. Still, make an effort to wake for a breakfast of local fruit, homemade omelettes, and little chocolates embossed with the Petra logo. As for the destination, Patmos boasts crystalline beaches, a handful of gourmet restaurants, and an old town, Chora, that's a UNESCO World Heritage site.
With no local airport, Patmos is tricky to reach. Ask staffers at the Petra hotel to secure your tickets and have them shipped.
Avoid arriving in August, when the Greeks get two weeks vacation. The rest of the year, Patmos is uncrowded.
From the hotel, it's an easy walk to Grikos Beach, where you can explore Kallikatsou, a massive rock formation rising from the ocean like a freestanding cliff.

Why We Love Patmos
The island welcomes you with a wide selection of beaches, from secluded pebbled coves to sandy, umbrella-ed oceanfronts. What's more: one of the many attractions of Patmos are its villages or traditional settlements displaying amazing architecture.
