Why Stay At Royal Palms Resort & Spa

Resembling an expansive Mediterranean residential manor rather than a resort, Royal Palms offers a sophisticated and tranquil retreat for couples looking to practice the art of doing nothing at all.

The Scoop

Located just a stone's throw from the base of iconic Camelback Mountain, Royal Palms was originally built in the 1920s as the winter home for a New York financier and his wife—a place for privacy and relaxation. Today, the atmosphere at Royal Palms continues to be one of serenity thanks to meandering paths that lead to intimate courtyards, lush gardens, and gurgling fountains. Scattered on the property's 65 acres are 117 casitas and guest rooms carefully appointed with custom-made Mexican- and Spanish-inspired furnishings—four-poster beds, leather-covered coffee tables, tall armoires. Plus, there are en suite fireplaces and bathrooms with deep soaking tubs and oversize showers. Private patios, terraces, and courtyards afford covetable views of the mountains and the resort's dramatic landscaping (think fragrant bougainvillea, Egyptian palms, and exotic plants). T Cook's, the on-site restaurant, serves rotisserie specialties prepared in the 1930s fireplace.

Insider Tips

Book a 90-minute Acqua Dolce Ritual, which takes place in Alvadora Spa's signature treatment villa (which has an outdoor water garden).

Let the resort's Director of Romance help you plan the ultimate surprise for you and your travel companion. Perhaps you'll love a bubble bath topped with rose petals or a couple's astrology reading?

Why We Love Phoenix

Fabulous museums, nightlife, shopping, dining, golf... Everything just feels brighter in Phoenix (it does get 300 days of sunshine each year, after all).

Don't Miss

Epic Hiking: Camelback Mountain. Don't skip a close-up look at Camelback Mountain. Summit trails are not for the faint of heart, but there are easier trails for beginners as well.

Best Cocktail Spot: Mission restaurant. The chic bar in this downtown Scottsdale restaurant features an impressive selection of handcrafted tequilas. Try the Aguacate Margarita, a refreshing mix of Cruz del Sol Tequila, Triple Sec, avocado, and pressed lime. 3815 N Brown Ave. 480/636-5005.

Top Restaurant: St Francis. This intimate restaurant in the heart of Phoenix, has exposed brick walls and wooden beams. In the kitchen, Chef Aaron Chamberlin roasts meats, fish, vegetables, and breads in a wood-fired oven. 111 E Camelback Rd. 602/200-8111.

Best Shopping: Scottsdale Quarter. Old-world architecture meets the lush desert landscape in the 28-acre district of Scottsdale Quarter, the spot for serious shoppers. Recent store openings include Apple, H&M, and Lululemon Athletica. 15279 N Scottsdale Rd. 480/270-8123.

Dinner and a Movie: IPic. This recently opened theater in Scottsdale offers reserved seating in oversize leather seats, full-service dining, and an after-hours lounge. 15257 N Scottsdale Rd. 480/270-8123.
