Why Stay At Oyster Bay Beach Resort
It's the best of two worlds at this St. Maarten condo property, where guests have easy access to both the Dutch and French corners of the Caribbean island.
This condo resort and timeshare complex sprawls along the tip of a narrow sandy peninsula between the ocean and Oyster Pond marina, a peaceful spot on the eastern edge of Dutch St. Maarten (the far side of the marina is actually across the border on the island's French side, known as St. Martin). Perhaps because much of the resort operates as a timeshare, the Caribbean-colored accommodations have a comfy feel and houselike amenities (including kitchenettes), and all but 12 of the 190 units are lofts, studios, or suites. The best meals are at Beau Beau's beach bar for lunch and dinner at Infinity Restaurant by the pool overlooking the ocean.
Isolation has its privileges—and its challenges. Taxi rides add up quickly, so it's best to rent a car if you plan to explore the island.
Ask for complimentary snorkel gear from the pool staff for great views of the reef that's within wading distance of the beach. The concierge can also arrange a half-day snorkel trip to Anguilla or nearby Prickly Pear Island.

Why We Love St. Maarten
A 37-square-mile pocket of pristine island paradise, well equipped with white-sand beaches and delicious cuisine.
Top Shopping: Front Street + Le West Indies Mall. Front Street in the Dutch capital of Philipsburg is the place for duty-free deals aimed at cruise-ship passengers, while Le West Indies Mall in the French-side town of Marigot caters to a classier crowd with high-end boutiques.
Best Dining: Temptation. CIA-trained Dino Jagtini's restaurant is perhaps the island's best (it's certainly its most inventive). Be sure to order the foie gras PB&J. Read More
Top Casino: Casino Royale. At the Sonesta Maho Beach, this is the biggest gambling venue on the island, with Vegas-style glitz and stage shows.
