Why Stay At Resort at Squaw Creek

This newly renovated hotel offers access to Lake Tahoe's alpine runs in winter, and in the summer, golf courses, fly-fishing holes—even waterslides. Plus, residential-style digs means it's a great place for the entire family.

The Scoop

Even after a $53 million renovation in 2008, this timber lodge edging Lake Tahoe manages to let nature do the talking. In the property's common areas and 405 guest rooms, the huge windows overlooking the lake and Sierra Nevada function as ever-changing works of art (and pair very well with the handsome leather armchairs and granite fireplaces the size of log trucks). The surrounding 195 acres include snowshoe trails, an ice rink, and ski in-ski out access to 170 alpine runs in winter; in summer, there are private fly-fishing holes, three swimming pools, and a 120-foot waterslide for the kids. Cap off your day with a rib eye at the in-house Six Peaks Grill, and your mattress will feel welcome as fresh powder.

Insider Tips

Spend an extra $75 for a generous 8PM checkout, then sign up for a two-hour, 15-mile dog-sledding expedition.

The Tahoe Hot Stone Massage is the favorite treatment at The Spa at Squaw Creek, where guests relax amid birch trees while listening to the sound of flowing water.

Preferred Airport

Arrive at Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO), which is approximately 50 miles (1 hour) from the resort. Transfers are available: $70 each way to/from the airport.
