Why Stay At Bauer L'Hotel

Recently renovated Art Deco interiors are the highlight at this 109-room property in San Marco, the heart of Venice, Italy.

The Scoop

Bauer L'Hotel logo

For travelers in search of classic Venetian elegance in San Marco, the city's epicenter of dining and shopping, Bauers L'Hotel has been the top choice since 1890. Here, well-heeled Venetians sip Bellinis in the hotel's grand vaulted bars, book appointments for massages and facials at the hotel's award-winning Palladio Spa, and stop in for a late-night drink at the hotel's wildly popular BBar. This historic 109-room hotel received several renovations over the decades, including the restoration of the Gothic-Byzantine exteriors on the property's canal side and the hotel's Art Deco interiors. For lunch or dinner, reserve a table at De Pesis Restaurant for chef Ciresa's fusion menu (be sure to order the amberjack tartare with seared eggplant) served with views of the recently restored 17th-century Chiesa di Santa Maria della Salute basilica. This elegant escape is also just a two-minute walk to luxury shopping boutiques, top restaurants, and the great open expanse of historic St. Mark's Square.

Insider Tips

Bauers Palladio Spa is one of the largest and most popular spas in Venice, with views of the Grand Canal and San Marco. Book well in advance for a vigorous Pinda Bamboo massage.

Ask the concierge to reserve tickets for exhibitions at the new Punta della Dogana contemporary art museum in Dosoduro, a two-minute boat journey across the Grand Canal. A collection of paintings, photography, and installations belonging to the François Pinault Foundation are on permanent display.

Preferred Airport

Arrive at Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), which is approximately 15 miles (50 minutes) from the hotel.

Why We Love Venice

Looking for inspiration? Venice has more artistic masterpieces per square kilometer than any other place in the world.

Don't Miss

Best Day Trip: Mazzorbo. Take a vaporetto from Fondamenta Nuove to the island of Mazzorbo for an afternoon of wine tasting and feasting at Venissa, the new restaurant and boutique hotel by award-winning wine and Prosecco producer Gianluca Bisol. Lunch for two from $150.

Top Spa: Cosmo Wellness Spa. Opened in May 2011, the Cosmo Wellness Spa is one of the largest wellness centers in Venice, with holistic treatments, state-of-the-art equipment, and minimalist interiors.

Where to Eat: Al Covo. This quaint little restaurant in San Marco run by a Texan woman and her Italian husband, specializes in local Venetian fare. Order the savory soft-shell crabs or the mixed seafood pastas and risottos. Dinner for two $90.

Best Cocktail Spot: BBar. At the Bauer Hotel, this bar remains one of the hottest late-night spots. Request a classic Venetian drink: either a blood-red Negroni, pale mauve spritz, or a peach Bellini.
